I grew up in Maryland, USA. I’ll soon be 65 and have hardly done any traveling since we first had kids 30 years ago. When I met my wife we traveled quite a bit for a few years before having kids, and I miss it alot! When I was 26 I spent a whole winter in barbados which was my adventure for a lifetime I guess. We have never traveled to Europe or been out of the U.S. all this time because we just couldn’t afford to do it. I dream of travelling and will make sure my dreams come true. Enjoy your youth, your energy and your time. You are a very wise person!

We’re running *to* something not from something. We were conventionally successful but wanted to travel more. All the older people who should have been traveling still weren’t traveling and we didn’t want to miss our chance. We’re in our 40s and traveling is a WORK OUT. I can’t imagine trying to start this in our 60s. We agree take it on the sooner the better.

I hate it when people make comments that traveling is avoiding responsibility. If you are able to do it and that’s what you want in your life, then why not?! And you’re totally right – so much better to do it while you’re young and healthy! I really think a lot of people also don’t recognize the concept of saving money – my husband and I live off half our income so we are able to save a lot. Also, we never buy plane tickets, we use points. There are so many ways to make travel possible if you really want it! Great post!
