PhotoLine can load raw images from digital cameras
Many digital cameras can save a so-called RAW format. This format saves
the raw data that come “directly” from the sensor of the
camera. This format has some advantages and disadvantages compared to
other file formats. The main advantage is, that the images are
relatively small and there are no compression problems. You avoid
problems with the automatic color correction of the camera, too. The
disadvantage is that every camera has its own raw format. So you have
to search for an application, that can read the format of your camera.
If you have such a software, you will see, that you have to spend some
time to get a perfect image from your raw data.
Why raw images?
Some people claim that the quality of raw images is not better then JPEG images. We don't think
so. If you only spend time for a quick view on both kinds of images you
won't see a difference. But if you want to manipulate your images, raw
images are the better choice. One advantage is that raw images normally
have 12 bit of color information per channel. If you want to lighten
such an image you will get a far better result then lightening an image
with only 8 bit.
Beside this, you can get problems if you have to work on images that where compressed in JPEG format because of the JPEG artefacts. If you got a noisy image from your camera, the JPEG version of the image will be so artefacted that it will be much work to remove that noise.

Beside this, you can get problems if you have to work on images that where compressed in JPEG format because of the JPEG artefacts. If you got a noisy image from your camera, the JPEG version of the image will be so artefacted that it will be much work to remove that noise.

Here you can load your image into a dialog. Then use
the functions in the dialog to get a perfect image.
You can setup to get an image with 16 Bit per color channel. There is an automatic histogram and a gamma correction und a curves correction to get an optimal result.
If you have a color profile, you can setup it here to append it to your photos.

Loading of raw images with "File/Open"
You can open your raw photos using "File/Open" in PhotoLine. To get
a better quality this way you can setup the loading at "Edit/Options/File/RAW".
After you loaded the photo you can use all tools in PhotoLine to get the best result.
PhotoLine uses a library to load digital camera raw images. This library lists plenty of cameras that are supported. Of course we can't test all this cameras. But we will show the list here to give you a chance to check your own camera:
